The Greater Noida authority has expanded Ganga water supply to 52 of 58 sectors, with six sectors still awaiting connection: Eta 2, Techzone (Mursafabad), Xu 3, Sector 2, Sector 4, and Sector 16C. The supply has also reached 67 of 122 villages under its jurisdiction. Currently, the authority is supplying 374MLD against a demand of 339MLD, with 100MLD coming from Ganga water mixed with groundwater.
Four underground reservoirs are under construction: Sector 2 (3,600KL), Sector 3 (3,000KL), Techzone 4 (3,000KL), and Eta 2 (1,500KL). Nine sectors, including Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Eta 1, already receive 100% Ganga water. Upon completion, the project will supply 210MLD of Ganga water, reducing groundwater dependency. The Rs. 848 crore project, which took 17 years to become operational since its conception in 2005, includes a 176-km pipeline network from the Upper Ganga Canal in Hapur. Inaugurated by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in November 2022, it aims to serve over one million people across 58 sectors and villages.
While Greater Noida West’s water supply was initially planned for March 2023, it faced delays due to old network issues. The authority is actively encouraging villagers to switch from borewells to the new water network to ensure better water quality and preserve groundwater levels.
