Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and Jal Shakti, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, conducted a comprehensive review of the Jal Jeevan Mission in Tripura today, which is rapidly approaching 100% water supply coverage. Presently, the state has achieved an impressive 75.96% tap water supply connections to rural households, showcasing a remarkable increase from mere 3.29% in 2019.
During the interaction with corporators and state government authorities involved in the “Har Ghar Jal” initiative, the Minister encouraged them to identify challenges in the districts and expedite the process to ensure that every household has access to water supply connections.
In his review meeting, the Minister stated, “The progress made by Tripura in providing water supply to households is truly commendable. The transformative vision behind this program, driven by Hon’ble Prime Minister Modi ji, empowers every household. It is inspiring to see the transformation in people’s lives achieved through this mission over the past four years in Tripura. Different state governments including the Government of Tripura have played a key role in achieving such a wide coverage. I urge the authorities to persist in their hard work to ensure 100% “Har Ghar Jal.” We must also fulfill our commitment to ensuring the supplied water is safe, we must be proactively enhancing the water testing ecosystem. Our support from the center will continue, providing all necessary assistance. While some states, like West Bengal, have not witnessed progress in this regard, your work in Tripura has set an example, inspiring people in West Bengal and in other states. People should ask this question — If every household in Tripura can have safe drinking water, why not us? We should set an example for the entire region.”
Since the launch of this mission in 2019, the number of rural households with tap water connections has surged to 564,910 from 24,502, ensuring 75.96% of rural households have tap water supply connections. Among the eight districts, West Tripura, Unakoti, North Tripura, and Gomati have surpassed 75% of their targets, ensuring water supply to over 75% of households. The remaining districts—South Tripura, Khowai, Dhalai, and Sepahijala—are in the range from over 69% to over 73%.
