Work on £1.9m upgrades at East Sussex wastewater treatment works set to start

East Sussex

Construction is almost underway on improving Halland Wastewater Treatment Works in East Sussex – as part of ongoing efforts to drive down storm overflow activity across the region. The works at the site – located near East Hoathly – will increase its capacity and mean the site can treat more flows, especially during and after stormy weather, enabling greater volumes to be treated. Overall the project will mean the site can increase the amount of flows it treats by more than 100%. This in turn will reduce the need to…

Lift Station Repairs Demonstrate Efficacy of New Chemical Grout Injection Technology

By Suzan Chin-Taylor Injecting chemicals to stabilize, lift, seal or compact weak soils and rocks is not new. Polyurethane grout material has been used for this purpose since the 1960s. However, the limitations of this process have often been frustrating, not only for asset owners but installers, as well. Historically, material injection has been limited to shallow depths of twenty feet or less, due to the technology, means, and methods of application. As the material is injected, it begins to synthesize (cure) inside the injection tube. While the synthesis rate…

EARTHLINGS have lost yet another year since the last Earth Day 2022! And we have a lot to show for all the progress made in conferences, meetings, policy tweaks on papers, verbal assurances of implementing more and more conservation measures to push away the ZERO WATER DAY! In the meantime, summer of 23 has arrived with a vengeance and even as I write this quote in Mumbai, the outside temperature is about 400 C. When Nature starts asserting itself notwithstanding the half-hearted human endeavours, it beats all predictions and computational…
